Q: Why does Solar clean the area between the outside baffle and the inside weir?
A: The algae patties and debris float up into this +/- 8" area and cleaning the baffle does not eliminate this problem. The inside baffle surface is cleaned by the existing rubber scraper attached to the scum rake. This keeps algae from attaching to the surface of the baffle. Algae attaches itself to the bottom 4" (below the water line) of the outside baffle surface. A brush can scrape this surface clean, but it does not affect the build-up of algae and debris in the 8" area between the baffle and weir. The purpose of our sweep brush is to keep sweeping this area clean by pushing the algae and debris forward, thus being pushed out through the weir teeth by the force of the water. Another advantage of our brush is that you do not have to replace the webbing gussets with L-shaped brackets.

Q: The Solar sweep is built out of aluminum and not stainless steel. Why?
A: All metallic parts are built out of marine grade 6061-T6, the same used in building ships. Since the aluminum is up to four times lighter, this eliminates any use of counter weights. The weight bearing force on the existing skimmer arm is +/- 26 pounds, thus eliminating any excess torque or metal fatigue on the skimmer arm. The stainless steel system has a weight bearing force of approximately 100 pounds on the skimmer arm and the possibility of being top heavy. No part of the aluminum system needs to be painted because there is no corrosive factor. The warranty is the same as stainless steel. Another advantage of aluminum over stainless steel is that if some foreign object should fall into the trough and hang up and bind the mainframe arm, only the arm will bend, not the entire skimmer arm, thus keeping damage to a minimum. (if stainless steel requested*special order)

Q: The Solar system does not disengage the brushes. Why?
A: Our brushes are special built to allow self-cleaning and to withstand the frictional force 24 hours a day, from 12 to 20 months, without replacement. If you can engage and disengage for cleaning and still only guarantee the brush life of eight to ten months, what's the purpose of disengaging? (if disengagement requested*special order)
